Having followed this up until I couldn't use the newest drivers because they didn't support my 2008 Macbook, I figured I should share what I did to get the Bootcamp drivers working.I followed the above post until Part E, installing drivers. The only problem I can see is if Windows 10 updates itself and breaks the compatibility of the drivers, because these are Windows 7 drivers running on Windows 10. We'd then have to start looking at third-party drivers and hoping they work or just buy a laptop that isn't 8 years old haha.Let me know how you get on doing it! The only thing that doesn't work for me is controlling screen brightness with the function keys. I need to work that out, I currently have to go into Windows settings and change it there.
Steps for installing Windows 10 on your old MacBook Pro. If you follow these steps you do so at your own risk and with no guarantee that things will work out. I used a late-2008 MacBook Pro. Others of a similar vintage might well work. Get a copy of Windows 10. Fairly obvious but worth mentioning. Open Apple Software Update for Windows and install available updates to get all the drivers. You will find additional details on the Mac models.
Using Bootcamp 4 partition I have found that Windows 10 works quickly and functions well on the Apple Macbook 13-inch White Plastic Unibody Mid 2010 Model and the only issue is that the Apple Trackpad does not function because it is not properly supported by Apple Bootcamp software. Why is this model not supported with an updated bootcamp? I don't understand why Apple refuses to support this model through bootcamp since it obviously does work with Windows 10.I have to plug in a USB mouse because the trackpad is not properly supported by Bootcamp 4.Is there some way I could have the trackpad working in Windows 10? Nobody knows why Apple does not support old Macs, but it's clear that old Macs (nearly any Intel-based Mac) can run Windows 10.
Note that Apple's requirements only apply to the possibility of installing the Boot Camp drivers; if you do not have a 'supported' Mac, you can still install Windows 10, but you will not be able to install the latest Boot Camp drivers version.Respecting to the trackpad, it's well-known that Boot Camp 5 drivers may work properly with Windows 10, but this is not the case for Boot Camp 4 drivers. I'm afraid you have no options to fix it.PD: Remember that you can still install Windows 10 on a virtual machine, because it is completely supported there and you do not need Boot Camp drivers ?. HOW TO FIX WINDOWS 8 & WINDOWS 10 APPLE TRACKPAD PROBLEMI found this post online from Amit Bhawani and I found it will work for Windows 10 also on the Macbook, but with just one additional adjustment. So for Windows 10 you should follow all the steps that Amit provides below but after restarting the Macbook you must repeat the steps, but this time instead of choosing USB Input Device, you must choose Apple Multitouch Device. If you chose Apple Multitouch Device the first time around you will receive an error message. I am thinking that by choosing USB Input Device the first time around and then restarting and choosing Apple Multitouch the second time around that it clears the error and allows it to work the second time around. Please note that in Windows 10 “USB Device” is listed as “Universal Serial Batch Device”.
Good luck to you other Macbook users who wish to use Windows 10. I hope this helps you too.In addition, for those of you who do not have a Mac that only supports Bootcamp 4, you need to first install Windows 7 using Bootcamp 4 and install the Bootcamp 4 drivers in Windows 7. Then since Windows 8 and Windows 10 are not officially supported by Bootcamp 4, you will need to burn the Windows 10 ISO image to a DVD R Disc (or save Windows 10 to a USB Flash Drive) and update your Windows 7 to Windows 10. Then follow all the steps below to fix the Apple Trackpad issue and then follow my additional step above to get your Apple Trackpad functioning in Windows 10.
